The design of BEN & GAWS dry bulk storage silos is made according to the loads on silo bins derived from American standard ANSI- ASAE EP 433:88 REV 2006 or German standard DIN 1055 1987 , wind load calculation (standard for 180 kmph)follows German standard DIN 1055-4:2005-03,snow & ice load calculation follows German standard DIN 1055-5: 2005-07. All the silos are designed according to respective seismic zone according to uniform building code and applicable snow load depending on installation site.

BEN & GAWS uses UNI EN 10346: 2009 S350 GD+Z grade ultra-high tensile and high yield steel with fine molecular structure and controlled internal purity. It combines outstanding mechanical properties like fatigue resistance, toughness and formability along with abrasion resistance.
TATA BLUESCOPE made marine grade Zin-Alume-Silicon Alloy steel of AZ 150 or AZ 200, which offers best available surface protection against corrosion even in harshest environment like costal region or the regions with high rain fall or snow fall, is used for wall sheets and roof panels. It is offered with yield strength of minimum 300 MPa to minimum 550 MPa depending on the application. ZINCALUME® steel complies with AS1397, ASTM A792M, IS 15961 and ISO 9364 standards.
By blending 55% Aluminium with 43.4% zinc & 1.6% Si in an alloy coating, greatly enhance corrosion resistance. As a result extensive testing indicates that life span of ZINCALUME steel’s with AZ150 is up to four times that of ordinary galvanized steel (Z275) in similar environmental conditions. As an alternative solution, pre-galvanized steel with G300 to G450 grade galvanizing is also used for corrosion protection.
Heavy duty commercial roofs are produced for specific geographical condition like seismic zone & snow load with 31Â° slope to compliment the angle of the products with maximum roof load capacity 20,690 kg.
Roof top ring supports loading conveyors with capacity up to 1000 TPH along with large catwalks. Beam rafters from cylinder to top ring along with Compression Beams provide strong fame work for the roof.
Roofs are fitted with a Inspection Gate, a Roof Ladder, Inside Ladder, Roof Vents, Temperature Monitoring Cable hanging brackets, a High Level Indicator etc.
Silo roofs are prone to red rust due to weather condition or condensation inside the silos. BEN & GAWS manufactures roof purlins from Zinc-Aluminium weather coated steel that ensures best available rust prevention technology in the market with 25 years expected life.
BEN & GAWS uses ultra-high tensile and high yield corrugated side wall sheets with each sheet length 2.7 m and each sheet height 1.12 m. Sheet thickness varies from 6 mm at the bottom to 1.6 mm at the top according to the load experienced in different parts of the wall or cylinder. 75 mm pitch and 16 mm depth corrugation gives maximum strength and better weather protection at the joints. G 600 galvanization with superior alternatives like Zinc – Aluminum coating or Magnesium coating provides best available surface protection in the market against corrosion.
Up to a number of three stiffeners per sheet provides maximum strength to the silo wall and with better load transfer to the foundation. Heavy duty stiffeners also support overhead conveyors and catwalk easily. Stiffeners are joined by vertical fish plates to guarantee even load distribution. These stiffeners are sheared and bender from black steel and finished with hot dip galvanization. Thickness of the stiffeners varies from 2.5 mm to 6 mm depending load calculation.
50 mm diameter multiple wind rings assure better tightening of the silo wall and better protection against wind. BEN & GAWS standard design includes 180 Kmph wind speed consideration which can be upgraded up to 250 Kmph depending on geographical locations.
BEN & GAWS manufactures heavy duty galvanized modular catwalks with widths 1200 mm to 2200 mm supported by heavy duty industrial goal posts and bracings. BEN & GAWS catwalks can support high capacity loading equipment along with anti-slip design to improve personal safety. Hot dip galvanized elevator support towers are designed to support elevators with capacity up to 1000 TPH and elevator height up to 35 meter. Rest platforms at certain intervals and safety guard throughout the height are designed specially to provide adequate safety.
Both external and internal ladders are attached with the silos through bolting and are covered with safety cages at certain distances. Intermediate rest platforms are provided at every 3-meter distance. Ladders and platforms are available with anti-slip footrests and are designed in accordance with related safety standards.
BGPL provides ‘Double H’ type, ‘Single H’ type or ‘Mesh type’ aeration trenches or channels on silo foundations which are made of thick, galvanized perforated sheets and cover 20% to 100% silo foundation area. These perforated sheets are designed uniquely to avoid dust accumulation and are connected to high pressure centrifugal fans for air circulation inside the stored grains.
High pressure centrifugal fans are selected based on stored grain capacity and static pressure, ambient condition, duration of storage etc.
8.8 grade galvanized hardware exceeds 1000 hours of salt spray test which provides high corrosion resistance and neoprene EPDM backed washer protects zinc coating of the sheet at bolted section and provides watertight joint to protect the materials stored inside the silo.
Vibration fork level switches are best suitable for level sensing of solid granules, powder and liquid. Stainless-steel turning forks sense the level of the stored media through vibration. Efficient sensing, easy installation and self-cleaning are the major advantages. As an option, paddle or magnetic level switches along with logic based automatic level controller can also be provided if required.
Modular and digital temperature monitoring sensors along with thin temperature cables in accordance with international safety standards like ATEX IECEx easily detect hotspots inside the storage system.
All-weather-proof doors are supplied with every silo along with step-in ladders and platforms for easy access. Wall mounted access doors are generally fit with the second ring from the bottom and the roof mounted access doors are fit on roof close to the wall mounted external ladder.
Double motor driven heavy-industrial-type sweep is used to assure easy discharge of the stored material inside the silo once discharge through gravity has been completed. Compact model of sweep auger has direct transmission gearbox placed inside the silo. Steel auger is mounted on roller bearing also has apex cover to protect the screw from the grain load. Capacity range of the sweep is 10 TPH to 150 TPH.
